Committee Democrats At Work: Rep. Heck Pushes For Rental Assistance During COVID-19 Crisis

In March, Committee Democrats led by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the House Committee on Financial Services, released the Financial Protections and Assistance for America’s Consumers, States, Businesses, and Vulnerable Populations Act (H.R. 6321), legislation to provide a comprehensive stimulus and public policy response to the coronavirus pandemic.

This legislation executes the comprehensive plan released by Chairwoman Waters and Committee Democrats in March 2020.

H.R. 6321 includes provisions to protect consumers, renters, homeowners, and people experiencing homelessness, including a bill from Congressman Denny Heck (D-WA) to provide $100 billion in rental and utility payment assistance to renters in non-assisted housing.

See below for what Congressman Heck had to say about his legislation.

“Housing is the single largest expense for most American families. By a longshot. Right now, those same families are facing job loss, struggling with child care, and dealing with other unprecedented financial burdens stemming from the global COVID-19 crisis – and many are unable to make next month’s rent. We have to get meaningful help to them as soon as we possibly can. Using the ESG program to provide more rental assistance is something we can do right now.”

Chairwoman Waters and Financial Services Committee Members continue their efforts to ensure their critical legislation is included in the ongoing legislative response to the coronavirus crisis.
