The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was created following the 2008 financial crisis. Since then, the agency has done exceptional work to protect working-class families and consumers from illegal junk fees, scams, fraud and other forms of abuse at the hands of big banks and predatory lenders. As a result, the CFPB has returned an astounding $21 billion to American families.
Recently, the CFPB has come under unprecedented levels of attack as the Trump Administration works to shut down the agency. Given these latest attacks, it is more important than ever that we hear stories about how the CFPB has worked to protect Americans from harm or help them after they’ve been ripped off.
If you are among the millions of people who have benefited from the CFPB, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, requests that you share your story in this form BELOW. These stories will be compiled and used by Democratic Members of Congress to highlight the CFPB’s impact and emphasize just how detrimental gutting this agency would be.
Please note that unless otherwise requested by you, only your first name will be used when your story is shared with the public, and no other personally identifying information will be shared. You are not required to provide any other information you would prefer to keep confidential.
If you’d like us to reach out to you so we can connect you with press to tell your story, please make note of that in the message box and be sure to share your email address and phone number.
