“I and my colleagues are all wishing Representative McAdams a speedy recovery and good health.

“As a new Member of the Financial Services Committee this Congress, Representative McAdams is a tireless, hardworking advocate for Utahns, and it is no surprise that even now he is working from home to help his constituents.”

Protecting Fair Housing Regulations During COVID-19 Crisis

On Friday, Chairwoman Waters led a letter to Benjamin Carson, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), urging him to withdraw the agency’s harmful 2020 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) proposal. This proposal would gut an important rule finalized by the Obama Administration that provides communities with greater clarity on how to help break down barriers to fair housing opportunity.

As the nation is faced with the current COVID-19 crisis, House Democrats are working to protect fair housing regulations, such as AFFH, to ensure that critical HUD funding is allocated to all communities in a fair and equitable manner. See the full text of the letter here.

Chairwoman’s Corner

Waters Calls Out The Fed: On Monday, Chairwoman Waters issued a statement regarding the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) recent actions to increase liquidity to the financial system in response to the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis:

This is in many ways an unprecedented crisis which calls for extraordinary federal response. Unfortunately, the Fed appears to be using its old playbook in trying to calm funding markets by flooding them with liquidity. During this time of economic turbulence, it is critical that the Fed go beyond these steps and provide much-needed support to those who are on the front lines of this pandemic….”
