Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, announced the six Committee Members who will serve as Subcommittee Chairs.

Each Subcommittee Chair was chosen through a selection process based on seniority, with the confirmation of all Committee Democrats.

“I am pleased to announce the very talented, experienced and diverse new leadership of our six Subcommittees,” said Chairwoman Waters. “During the 116th Congress, the Financial Services Committee will take on many important issues on behalf of consumers, investors and vulnerable populations, and I look forward to working with each Subcommittee Chair to ensure the interests of hardworking Americans are well represented.”

Below is the list of the House Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee Chairs in the 116th Congress:

• Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-12), Chair of the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets
  “I’m deeply honored to be chosen by my colleagues as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets,” said Congresswoman Maloney. “I look forward to working closely with Chairwoman Waters to pursue an agenda that strengthens investor protections, improves transparency, expands access to capital for small companies, and combats the dangerous deregulatory efforts of the Trump Administration.”
  
  
• Congressman Gregory Meeks (NY-5), Chair of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions
  “The prosperity of both Main Street and Wall Street are interdependent, and Congress under Democratic leadership now has an opportunity to pass smart legislation that finally gives consumers a greater voice, while bringing regulations into the 21st century,” said Congressman Meeks. “As the Chair of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions, my priorities will build a bridge between consumers and industry, increase transparency, encourage investment in underserved communities, hold bad actors accountable, and highlight best practices.”
  
  
• Congressman William Lacy Clay (MO-1), Chair of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance
  “As the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development & Insurance, I look forward to working closely with Chairwoman Maxine Waters,” said Congressman Clay. “I intend to help her reform the housing finance system to ensure that underserved borrowers in our more challenged neighborhoods have access to mortgages, insurance, and fair appraisals to give them a real chance at home ownership. I also share the Chairwoman’s commitment to finally confronting our nation’s shameful failure to end homelessness. Finally, I intend to exercise vigorous oversight over the Department of Housing and Urban Development to push back against Trump administration policies that have weakened enforcement of the Fair Housing Act and punished lower-income Americans who suffer from housing insecurity.”
  
  
• Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (MO-5), Chair of the Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy
  “I am honored that my colleagues have entrusted me to confront some of the most vexing economic challenges facing our country as Chairman of this Subcommittee,” said Congressman Cleaver. “At the moment there is no greater challenge facing the American economy than this shutdown. I am eager to assess and mitigate the self-inflicted wounds of the shutdown once we get federal workers back on the job. I will focus in on bipartisan solutions that secure our financial institutions, restore stability to international markets, protect the American public from nefarious foreign actors, and put an end to reckless trade policies that harm our citizens. • Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3), Chair of the Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion

• Congressman Al Green (TX-09), Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
  “Having served as Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee for the past six years, my aim as Chairman is to have the subcommittee focus on (among other things) fair lending, fair housing, and a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that protects all American consumers from predatory practices,” said Congressman Green.
  

Subcommittee Chairs are subject to approval by the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and the Democratic Caucus.
