Ranking Member Maxine Waters Applauds Lawsuit Filed by Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka Against Trump Administration Over Unlawful Removal from National Credit Union Administration Board

Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to the lawsuit filed by Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka – two former Democratic members of the National Credit Union Administration Board – against the Trump Administration for unlawfully firing them without cause. The Congresswoman put out a statement blasting the Administration following the firing.

“With today's lawsuit, Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka are standing up for the Constitution and our democracy. Congress designed the National Credit Union Administration and its board to be bipartisan, independent, and free from political interference. These principles have been adhered to for decades – under Republican and Democratic administrations – so that the Board can focus on protecting the hard-earned funds of more than 142 million consumers who are credit union members. The President’s unlawful firing of these two public servants undermines our nation’s credit unions and puts their members at risk. We need more dedicated individuals like Tanya and Todd leading our agencies, and we will have their back every step of the way.”
