Waters Congratulates Alanna McCargo on Confirmation as President of Ginnie Mae

Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, released a statement congratulating Alanna McCargo on her confirmation as President of the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) this week.

“I would like to congratulate Alanna McCargo and the Biden Administration on this week’s Senate confirmation of Ms. McCargo as President of the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae). She brings with her decades of expertise and leadership experience in the housing finance industry, having worked in both the private and nonprofit sectors as well as federal government. This includes her time with the Department of the Treasury during the Obama Administration where she led recovery efforts during the post-2008 financial crisis, her role as Vice President of the Urban Institute’s Housing Finance Policy Center, and most recently as Senior Advisor for Housing Finance for Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia Fudge.

“For years, Ms. McCargo’s evidence-based research has driven and informed local, state, and national policy. At a time when Congress and the Biden Administration look to redress historical bias and discrimination in our housing market, Ms. McCargo’s demonstrated commitment to racial equity will be an asset to the future of Ginnie Mae and the secondary mortgage market.

“Since taking up the gavel as Chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, I have made it my goal to ensure meaningful diversity and representation in the housing and financial services industries, including in the highest ranks of our regulatory agencies. Ms. McCargo’s confirmation comes on the heels of Sandra L. Thompson’s nomination to serve as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). Together, these announcements, alongside the nomination of Julia Gordon as Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and Secretary Marcia Fudge’s steadfast stewardship of HUD, symbolize a historic shift in the leadership and direction of our nation’s housing industry and market for the better. I applaud the Biden Administration for its nomination, the Senate for its confirmation, and I look forward to working with Ms. McCargo in this new capacity.”
