Committee Passes Legislation to Protect Residents of HUD Housing

On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee held a markup of H.R. 1690, the Safe Housing for Families Act of 2019, legislation that protects residents of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-subsidized housing from carbon monoxide poisoning.

This legislation, introduced by Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-IL), would authorize $300 million over three years to fund the installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide detectors in HUD-subsidized housing units that have combustion-fueled appliances or a ventilation system that connects them to such units.

It was approved on a voice vote.
