Waters to Hold Briefing with Actor Richard Gere, Housing Experts on State of Homelessness in America
WASHINGTON, D.C. - This Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2 p.m., Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Committee on Financial Services, will hold a public briefing on the state of homelessness in America. The panel will feature experts on homelessness policy, along with actor, activist, and philanthropist Richard Gere.
The briefing will include a discussion of progress made under the Obama Administration’s Opening Doors plan, the nation’s first comprehensive federal effort to reduce and end homelessness in America. Under Opening Doors, the nation is well on its way to reaching its goal of ending veteran homelessness by the end of this year, but the Administration has recently had to extend its original goal for ending chronic homelessness by two years to reflect the need for additional resources to achieve this goal nationally.
