Waters Thanks Janet Yellen for Her Exceptional Service as Chair of the Federal Reserve

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Committee on Financial Services, made the following statement regarding Janet Yellen, Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Federal Reserve). Her term ends on February 3, 2018.

“Chair Janet Yellen has led the Federal Reserve with extraordinary distinction and served as a tireless champion for the interests of America’s most vulnerable populations. During her historic tenure, she has consistently demonstrated an unflappable ability to lead with a steady hand during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Her bold use of measures such as quantitative easing helped stabilize the economy and supported a significant increase in employment and economic growth. Since she took office as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors in 2010, the economy has added 17 million jobs, more than half of which were created during her tenure as Chair.

“Thanks to Chair Yellen’s leadership, the Federal Reserve also played a key role in implementing many critical reforms required by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, making our financial system much safer and stronger while putting our economy in a position to continue to grow.

“Janet Yellen is unquestionably one of the most qualified and experienced policymakers to ever lead the Federal Reserve and she will have a legacy of sound stewardship and economic progress.”
