Today Presser: Ranking Member Maxine Waters and Committee Democrats Demand Accountability from the Trump Administration’s Assault on Consumer Protections

Today July 15, at 2:00 p.m. ET, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, joined by Committee Democrats, will hold a press conference following the Committee's oversight hearing on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) with Acting Director Russel Vought.

As the Trump Administration continues its relentless campaign to dismantle the nation's top consumer watchdog, Americans are being left more vulnerable to fraud, scams, predatory lending, junk fees, identity theft, and other financial abuse. Speakers will expose how the Administration has systematically weakened the CFPB, undermined enforcement against corporate wrongdoing, and stripped away critical protections that millions rely on—all while working families struggle with a worsening affordability crisis.

Participants will call out the devastating consequences of these actions, highlight what is at stake for consumers, and demand accountability for the Administration's efforts to gut the independent agency created to stand up to Wall Street and protect the American people.
